Formic Acid, Anhydrous

Formic Acid, Anhydrous CH2O2  =  46.03

Analytical reagent grade formic acid of commerce containing not less than 98.0% w/w of CH2O2.

A colourless, corrosive liquid; bp2010_v4_02_03_appendix_i_1a_d d_20_20.png, about 1.22.

Assay Weigh accurately a conical flask containing 10  ml of water, quickly add about 1  ml of the reagent and weigh again. Add 50  ml of water and titrate with 1m sodium hydroxide VS using 0.5  ml of phenolphthalein solution as indicator. Each  ml of 1m sodium hydroxide VS is equivalent to 46.03  mg of CH2O2.
