Nitrobenzene

Nitrobenzene C6H5NO2 = 123.1 (98-95-3)

Colourless or very slightly yellow liquid, practically insoluble in water, miscible with ethanol (96%).

Boiling point, about 211°.

Dinitrobenzene To 0.1 mL add 5 mL of acetone, 5 mL of water and 5 mL of strong sodium hydroxide solution. Shake and allow to stand. The upper layer is almost colourless.
