Acetonitrile Methyl cyanide; CH3CN = 41.05 (75-05-8)

General reagent grade of commerce.

A colourless liquid; bp2013_v5_47_1003_[appendix_i_a]_a_ep7-7_ep_revised_texts d_20_20.png, about 0.78; bp2013_v5_47_1003_[appendix_i_a]_a_ep7-7_ep_revised_texts n_20_d.png, about 1.344. Not less than 95% distils between 80° and 82°.

Acetonitrile used in spectrophotometry complies with the following requirement.

Transmittance Not less than 98% in the range 255 to 420 nm using water in the reference cell, Appendix II B.
