Properties: Pale yellow, heavy liq becoming solid on standing at room temp. Needles from benzene or petr ether, mp 67.5-69°. bp6-7 178-180°; bp13-14 198-200°; bp760 333-335°. Pungent odor; sharp astringent taste. Sol in ether, chloroform, acetone, alcohol, vegetable oils; slightly sol in petr ether; sol in about 2000 parts water. LD50 orally in rats: 550 mg/kg (Lamson).
