Literature References: The bismuth content of the complex salts of bismuth and alkali tartrate may be made to range within wide limits (35-75% Bi). The medicinal grade contains 60-64% bismuth. Prepn: Kober, US 1663201 (1928 to Searle); Hagers Handb. Pharm. Praxis 1st Suppl., 316 (Berlin, 1949).
Properties: Odorless powder; sweetish taste; darkens on exposure to light. Sol in 2 parts water. Practically insol in alc or other organic solvents. The aq soln is slightly alkaline. Dec by mineral acids.
Therap-Cat: Formerly as antisyphilitic.
