Title: Peptide YY
CAS Registry Number: 106388-42-5 (unspecified source); 118997-30-1 (human); 81858-94-8 (porcine)
Additional Names: Peptide tyrosine-tyrosine; PYY1-36
Literature References: 36 amino acid peptide hormone named for its N- and C-terminal tyrosine (Y) residues. Evolutionarily related to pancreatic polypeptide and neuropeptide Y, q.v.. Regulates gut motility and secretion of gastric fluids. The two main endogenous circulating forms, PYY1-36 and PYY3-36, are released from endocrine L-cells in response to caloric intake. Abnormalities in intestinal PYY are linked to many gastrointestinal disorders including obesity and diabetes. Isoln and characterization of porcine form: K. Tatemoto, V. Mutt, Nature 285, 417 (1980); K. Tatemoto, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 79, 2514 (1982); of human form: idem et al., Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 157, 713 (1988).
