Literature References: One of the Grignard reagents. Prepd by reacting chlorobenzene with magnesium at reflux temperatures in the presence of catalytic amounts of an organic nitrate: Ramsden, US 2816937 (1957 to M. & T. Corp.).
Properties: Sol in ether (ethyl ether, other ethers may be used as solvents). A solution which is about 3 molar has an approx strength of 48%, and a d420 of ~1.15. Reacts with water, steam or acids to produce toxic and flammable vapors with evolution of heat.
Density: d420 of ~1.15
Use: In organic synthesis, especially in the production of hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, organic acids, amines, silicones, boranes.
