Properties: Amorphous, gray solid. [a]D28 -133° (c = 1 in 2:1 methanol-water). uv max (ethanol:water, 2:1): 222.5, 277, 290, 339 nm (e 63732; 13746; 11890; 22058). Minimum soly in water at pH 3.0 to 3.3 = 4 mg/ml. Maximum soly is above pH 8.5 = >150 mg/ml. Soly in 10% sodium chloride soln less than 1 mg/ml. Moderately sol in methanol, ethanol. Very slightly sol in acetone, ethyl acetate. Insol in ether, chloroform, hydrocarbons. Aq solns are stable to heat. LD50 in mice (mg/kg): >1000 orally, i.v., i.p., i.m. (Tisch).
