Title: Tripoli
CAS Registry Number: 1317-95-9
Literature References: Finely granulated, white or gray, porous siliceous rock. Used as abrasive and paint filler. The original tripoli, mined near Tripoli in Northern Africa was a diatomaceous earth, but this definition is no longer correct. Tripoli grains are an amorphous form of SiO2, soft, porous, and free from sharp cutting edges, making it especially suitable as an ingredient of metal polishes. Also used in oil well drilling muds.
