Properties: Bright yellow crystals. Orthorhombic system. Very hygroscopic. Appreciably volatile above 775°. Dec in vacuo above 450° yielding chlorine and UO2 plus U3O8. Very freely sol in water. Forms cryst hydrates. Sol in polar organic solvents such as acetone and alcohol, but insol in less polar solvents such as benzene. Aq solns are unstable.
