Literature References: Prepd by treating dry lithium aurichloride Li(AuCl4) with hydrogen sulfide at -10°. The reaction product consists of HCl, lithium chloride, and auric sulfide. The lithium chloride can be removed by extraction with alcohol. Ref: Antony, Lucchesi, Gazz. Chim. Ital. 19, 552 (1889). Prepd from AuCl3 or HAuCl4 and H2S in abs ether at low temp: Guthier, Dürrwachter, Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 121, 266 (1922).
Properties: Black powder. Heating to 200° dec it into its elements.
Use: In photography.
