Properties: White, heavy, cryst powder. Poisonous! d 6.2. mp 1170°. Sol in about 2225 parts water; more soluble in dil HCl or HNO3, less in dil H2SO4; sol in NaOH, ammonium acetate or tartrate soln; sol in concd hydriodic acid. Insol in alcohol.

Density: d 6.2
Use: As pigment instead of white lead; manuf of galvanic and lead-acid batteries; manuf minium, in lithography; preparing rapidly drying oil varnishes; weighting fabrics.
