CAUTION: Potential symptom of overexposure is respiratory system irritation; direct contact with liquid may cause frostbite. See NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards (DHHS/NIOSH 97-140, 1997) p 246. May cause methemoglobinemia, cyanosis, alveolar edema, bronchopneumonia. See Patty's Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology vol. 2F, G. D. Clayton, F. E. Clayton, Eds. (John Wiley & Sons, New York, 4th ed., 1994) p 4478.
Use: In organic synthesis to introduce fluorine atoms into organic molecules. As oxidizing agent; insulator for high voltage systems.
