Literature References: The corundum modification of aluminum oxide, Al2O3. Mined in Montana, Siam, Burma, Ceylon. The highest priced variety of the native gem has the blue color of cornflowers. Easily prepd synthetically. Hydrothermal synthesis: Laudise, Ballman, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 80, 2655 (1958).
Use: In jewelry, as phonograph needles, industrial abrasive, watch and instrument bearings.
