Literature References: Prepd by dissolving zinc oxide in dil propionic acid and concentrating the soln: Gaze, Arch. Pharm. 229, 488 (1891).
Properties: Clusters of plates, tablets; crystallizes also in needles as the monohydrate. The soly of the anhydr salt is 32% (w/w) in water at 15°; 2.8% in alc at 15°; 17.2% in boiling alc. Keep well closed. Dec in moist atm, giving off propionic acid.
Use: As fungicide on adhesive tape to reduce plaster irritation caused by molds, fungi, and bacterial action.
