Demethylation of podophyllotoxin (IV) with HBr, followed by treatment with BaCO3 afforded 4'-demethyl epipodophyllotoxin (V). Finally, condensation of (V) with triazole (III) in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid furnished the title compound.
