Treatment of pleuromutilin (I) with p-toluenesulfonyl chloride in pyridine at low temperature provided mutilin 14-(p-toluenesulfonyloxy)acetate (II). Subsequent condensation with quinuclidin-4-thiol hydrobromide (III) in the presence of NaOEt yielded the title sulfide.
