Phosphate (IV) can be obtained from phosphite (III) by first treatment with KHCO3 and KMnO4 followed by conversion to tetramethylammonium di-tert-butylphosphate by means of tetramethylammonium hydroxide and final treatment with chloroiodomethane (A) in refluxing dimethoxyethane.
