Palladium-catalyzed coupling between 4-ethyl-6-iodoquinazoline (I) and (2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)acetylene (II) affords the diaryl acetylene (III). Subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of the triple bond of (III) in the presence of Pd/C gives rise to the target compound.
