1,4-Dioxan

1,4-Dioxan Dioxan; C4H8O2  =  88.11 (123-91-1)

Analytical reagent grade of commerce containing not more than 0.5% of water.

A colourless liquid; freezing point, 9° to 11°; bp2010_v4_02_03_appendix_i_1a_d d_20_20.png, about 1.03.

Do not distil unless the dioxan complies with the following test for peroxides.

Peroxides Place 8  ml of potassium iodide and starch solution in a 12-ml ground-glass-stoppered cylinder about 1.5  cm in diameter. Fill completely with the reagent being examined, shake vigorously and allow to stand protected from light for 30 minutes. No colour is produced.

Dioxan used for liquid scintillation is of a suitable analytical grade.
