Literature References: Three isomers exist: The b-glycerophosphoric acid calcium salt, D(+)- and L(-)-a-glycerophosphoric acid calcium salt. Commercial product is a mixture of calcium b- and DL-a-glycerophosphates: Toal, Phillips, J. Pharm. Pharmacol. 1, 869 (1949). Prepn of the calcium salt of the a- and b-acids: King, Pyman, J. Chem. Properties: Commercial product, fine, odorless, almost tasteless, slightly hygroscopic powder; dec >170°. Sol in about 50 parts water; almost insol in alc, boiling water. Soly in water is increased by citric or lactic acid. The aq soln is alkaline.

Use: In dentifrices, baking powder, as food stabilizer.
