Properties: Faintly bitter crystals producing transient numbness of the tongue. Stable in air. When anhydr, mp 190-192°. One gram dissolves in 50 ml water. Freely sol in boiling water, alcohol, chloroform. Insol in ether. Incompatible with alkalies and their carbonates and the usual alkaloidal reagents. Aq solns are stable and are not dec by boiling.
